Dongshanfeng lies in the Wuling mountain range of the northwest of Shimen, Hunan
with 1200m m.s.l., the Dongting River in the east, Xiaoxiang River in the south,
Wuling Mountain in the west, the Yangtze River in the north, majestic, stretched
and fluctuated, in cloud and mist perennially. It has long history in the tea
culture。
It was said in the Tang Song dynasty that Shanhui Buddhist, the president of
Shi-men-jia-shan Temple was passing by the Dong-shan-feng and witnessing the scene:
very tall old trees ,twitter and ape cry, a tiger and a snake were groveling in
the place full of lucky air and nodding at the Master; when he drew near and saw
a tall tea tree with extra-exuberant leaves and odd fragrance, so he picked the
fresh leaves and made them into the tea, and then brought them back to Li-zhou-jia-shan
Temple(that is, Shi-men-jia-shan Temple). Each time when he sat in meditation,
he drank them and felt comfortable from head to foot, even forgot his own existence.
He tasted the Zen in the tea deeply---the philosophy of tea has something in common
with the Zen, namely, “the same flavor between Tea and Zen”, which is spread abroad
into Japan ，and then became the soul of Japanese tea culture. The master achieved
the perfection by the tea.
In 1887, the businessman of Guangdong Xiangshan planted the tea garden with
the area of hundreds of mu in the Dong-shan-feng, the tea was marketed into Britain,
America, French, Italy and Russia etc. Since the establishment of New China, Dong-shan-feng
tea industry was developed constantly, and then set up the Dong-shan-feng tea
farm which was purchased in full capital by Hunan Provincial Sanny Imp. Exp. Corp.
Ltd. and renamed as Dong-shan-feng Ecology Tea Industry Co., Ltd.----the largest
production base of Hunan province integrating the planting of tea and refining
process. So far the tea garden has the area of over 1500ha; with the superior
tea quality and particular taste, which has become the national certificated production
base of tea green food and organic tea. The unique ecology environment cultivates
the famous tea of Hunan----Dong-shan-xiu-feng.
“Dong-shan-xiu-feng” gains its name by its similarity in shape with the beautiful
peak. The tea adopts the taintless superior burgeon in the Yunwu mountain with
800-1200m m.s.l., and is manufactured by famous master. The tea is famous for
its 5-specials: vertical, green, fragrant, mellow, steep-lasting. It contains
the rich microelements such as Se etc. and has the efficacy of preventing diseases
and improving health. The tea has gained the superior product title at the province-level,
ministry-level, nation-level several times in succession since 1986, and the
first place of national famous tea by 102.54 score in the contest of national
famous tea and the national silver award in 1990, and the gold award in the
fourth Korea international famous tea fair in 2002, and the gold award in the
conference of Hangzhou international tea industry in Oct. 2005 and “top 10 famous
teas” in Hunan in Dec.2005.
Among the Dongshan Mountain, Wuling peak displays its unique charm, the “Tea
& Zen” conceals in the culture of the Oriental and the Western; when people
plucking the tea go back, their back-views reflect the green of the tea leaves;
drink the fragrant tea and indulge in the perfume of the tea.
